“2023” is a deeply personal piece, born from a year that felt both challenging and profoundly solitary. It carries the emotional weight of that time — moments of stillness, uncertainty, and introspection — but also something softer beneath it: the quiet presence of hope.
At its centre stands a lone figure by the sea. Not lost, but paused. Suspended between what has been and what is yet to come. The horizon is not fully clear, but it is open — suggesting new beginnings, even if they arrive gently, almost imperceptibly.
The work is abstract and highly tactile, built through layers, textures, and physical marks that invite a sensory experience. It reflects my ongoing exploration of material and touch — an attempt to move beyond simply viewing, and into feeling.
Originally, this piece was created just for me — a way of processing and holding that year. But seeing it now, complete and framed, I feel it may resonate with someone else. Perhaps it will find its place with someone who understands these quiet transitions, these in-between spaces where something within begins to shift.
For me, this painting is not only about loneliness — it is about endurance, and the quiet courage of continuing forward, even when the path is unclear.
