Golden Light, New Beginnings

Some paintings come together in an afternoon. Others quietly wait until life catches up with them.
This little painting has been waiting for its moment.
Long before Plymouth became my home, I visited the city and found myself captivated by something I couldn't quite put into words. It wasn't only the sea or the historic waterfront—it was the light. A soft, golden glow stretching across Plymouth Hoe, shimmering on the water and illuminating the wild grasses as they danced in the breeze. It felt peaceful, almost magical, and I knew that one day I wanted to capture that feeling.

Moving here has been a wonderful adventure, but like every new beginning, it has also been a little chaotic.
There is still so much uncertainty. I’m slowly settling into a temporary space while continuing my search for a home that truly feels like mine.
My little creative corner is enough for now, and perhaps that’s all I need to keep moving forward—one painting, one day, one small step at a time.
Art has a way of reminding us that beautiful things aren't built all at once.
They begin with a single step.
This small painting became mine.
For many years I've created large, heavily textured canvases that invite viewers to become immersed in them. They will always be at the heart of my practice. Lately, though, I've felt inspired to explore something new—a collection of smaller originals that capture fleeting moments in nature while making original artwork more accessible to those who may not have the space for a large piece.

Because size doesn't determine the depth of emotion a painting can hold.
This piece is a celebration of those quiet moments by the sea, when the morning light turns everything gold and the world seems to pause for just a little while.

Before I even lifted a brush, I pressed real grasses into the textured surface, allowing nature to leave its own delicate imprint.
Those subtle impressions became part of the landscape itself—a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful marks are the ones we don't try to control.
I love the idea of collaborating with nature rather than simply painting it.
Completing this piece feels like more than finishing a painting. It feels like marking the beginning of a new chapter—not only for my work, but for my life here in Plymouth.
My studio is still evolving.
My temporary home is still finding its rhythm.
And so am I.
We often wait until everything feels perfect before we allow ourselves to begin. But perhaps the real magic is in starting anyway.

One brushstroke.
One painting.
One small step at a time.
Because those small steps eventually become the life you've been dreaming of.
This little painting is the first in a new collection inspired by the sea, the wind, the grasses, and the extraordinary light that first welcomed me to Plymouth.
And I can't wait to share the journey with you. ✨
