What Remains

Long before I began my journey as an artist, I bought a beautiful print of a still life. It quietly accompanied me through a chapter of my life, hanging on my wall for years.

Over time the colours faded, the paper became stained, and after several moves it lost much of what had once made it beautiful.

It would have been easy to throw it away.

But I couldn’t.

It had witnessed so much of my life that it deserved more than ending up forgotten. Instead, I chose to transform it.

Rather than hiding its past, I embraced it. I built new layers of texture, paint, dried botanicals and delicate details over the original print, allowing only small fragments of its former self to remain visible beneath the surface.

The old painting became the foundation for something entirely new—something that now feels unmistakably mine.

In many ways, this piece reflects my own journey. We don’t have to erase our past to create a new future. The experiences that shaped us remain beneath the surface, becoming part of who we are, even as we transform.

This artwork is more than a painting; it is a bridge between two lives. It carries memories of where I’ve been while symbolising where I’m going.

One day, when I finally find my forever home - this painting will hang on its walls—a reminder that beauty can be rediscovered, that nothing meaningful is ever truly lost, and that every ending has the potential to become the beginning of something extraordinary...
