Ibiza — A Place I Didn't Expect to Fall in Love With

There are places we visit simply because they are on our list, and then there are places that unexpectedly leave something behind in us... Ibiza was one of those places for me.

Everyone knows Ibiza for its parties, music, nightlife and endless summer energy. But I didn't go there for any of that. I went to witness something much more extraordinary — a solar eclipse — and somehow, along the

way, I discovered a completely different side of the island.

A quieter Ibiza.

An Ibiza of soft Mediterranean light, whitewashed houses, rocky little coves, old paths, boats resting on still water and skies that seem to change colour every few minutes. An Ibiza that felt peaceful, almost dreamlike, and completely different from the image I had carried in my mind.

And I fell in love with that silence almost instantly.

The sea has always been a vital part of my life. I realise more and more that wherever I travel, I am somehow drawn towards the water. My holidays are almost never complete without the sea — whether I am walking beside it, swimming in it, sitting quietly watching it, or simply waking up knowing it is somewhere nearby.

Perhaps that is also why the sea finds its way so naturally into my art.

I never really come home from a journey empty-handed. I collect tiny fragments of the places I visit — a little shell, a piece of stone, a handful of sand, something almost insignificant to anyone else but meaningful to me. These small things become memories I can touch.

And later, they often find their way into my artwork.

They become part of the texture, part of the story, part of the place.

For me, art has always been about more than simply creating an image. It is about preserving a feeling. A moment. A particular kind of light. The texture of a landscape. The atmosphere of somewhere I have stood and felt something...

That is why photography and painting are so closely connected in my practice. Photography allows me to capture what I see in the moment, while painting gives me the freedom to transform what I felt into something completely different.

Ibiza has already started that process.

I came home with my camera full of photographs and my mind full of ideas. Somehow, seeing the island, its colours and its textures brought new energy to the unfinished works I had left behind. I suddenly wanted to return to them, to experiment again, to touch the materials, to layer and build and discover where they might lead.

But I also know that Ibiza itself will eventually become a piece of artwork.

Perhaps not a literal representation of the island, but something that carries its essence — the intense blue of the Mediterranean, the warmth of the earth, the brilliant white of the buildings, the roughness of the rocks, the stillness of the coves and that incredible golden light that seems to turn everything into something almost unreal.

There is already a new painting somewhere in my imagination.

Maybe even a whole new body of work.

And then there was the eclipse.

Standing beneath that strange changing sky and watching the sunlight transform was something I will never forget. The photographs captured the moment, but photographs can only ever capture part of an experience. There is also the feeling of standing there, looking up, knowing that something extraordinary is happening above you while the sea continues to move quietly below.

And perhaps that contrast is what stayed with me most — the vastness of the universe above and the ancient Mediterranean beneath it.

I have seen many beautiful sunsets in my life, but Ibiza gave me something different. The

ultimate sunset... - there will never be one like that again....

And I stood there thinking about how fortunate we are to be able to experience moments like this.

Perhaps this is why I travel.

Not simply to see somewhere new, but to collect feelings.

To notice the light.

To photograph the things that might otherwise disappear.

To bring home a tiny piece of somewhere and allow it to become part of something new.

I expected the famous island everyone talks about.

Instead, I found stillness.

I found inspiration.

I found beautiful imperfections, natural textures, warm stone, white walls, quiet beaches and endless Mediterranean blue.

For now, I hope you enjoy some of my captures from this journey — little fragments of Ibiza as I experienced it, from the quiet mornings and sun-filled days to the eclipse, the sea, the boats and that unforgettable golden sunset.

These photographs are my memories of the island for now.

But I have a feeling Ibiza won't remain only a memory.

Soon, it will become paint, texture, colour and perhaps a little piece of the Mediterranean will find its way onto my canvas.

Because some places you visit.

Some places you remember.

And some places quietly become part of your art...
